Equipped with a HP Indigo digital press and a new online quoting system, Melbourne business, Read Label, is leading the way in label printing.

Starting out in the back room of managing director, Ross Read’s house, in 1998, the business is today recognised as specialist industrial label printer for white goods and automotive parts.

Now, the company is preparing for further growth after installing a HP Indigo digital press that Read (pictured) believes will enable him to expand into the short-run label market. “It is obvious to me that the market for short-run labels is only going to increase,” he said. “Just-in-time ordering doesn’t suit conventional printing methods. If you want to be able to produce short runs fast and profitably then you have to move to a digital platform.”

The decision to settle on HP Indigo came after months of consideration and consultation with suppliers. Read found that Curries were the most approachable and demonstrated a thorough understanding of the Read Label business.

“Curries understood where we were coming from and were able to offer a solution that suited our needs,” Read said.

According to Mark Daws, product manager, HP digital press and label converting solutions, Read Label’s future looks even more promising. “Read Label is an innovative business that we were pleased to work with and believe the new equipment will help Ross move into some new label markets,” he said.

It doesn’t just stop at short-run labels. Read has also launched a new online quoting and ordering systems on its website http://www.readlabel.com.au/ which has made a strong impression with customers.

“A lot of people think it is a god-sent,” Read said. “Customers can now control their own destiny; it’s changed the way that they work quite dramatically.”
